Transformers 2 on IMAX Worth the Extra Money

It turns out that not all theaters are created equal, though anyone who's ever seen a movie on an IMAX screen already knows this. Just to make sure that theater goers actually get a bigger bang for their buck, Michael Bay has informed the interwebs that Transformers 2 is actually going to have a "slightly longer cut" on IMAX.

He treats us with a few tidbits of juicy information on his blog:

What you will notice that is strikingly different than Transformers 1, is the level of animation detail. The robot characters (42 in all), you really can feel empathy for them. What is also very different is the sheer scale of the movie. We have been very tight holding back much of the best imagery in commercials and trailers. You will see Optimus Prime in a few shots where he is actually perfectly to scale on the IMAX 50 foot tall screens. For IMAX, I created a slightly longer cut with more robot fighting. Four scenes were shot on IMAX cameras so the screen will fill the full IMAX screen for these scenes.

You might have passed on IMAX for The Dark Knight, but if you're a Transformers fan then you're going to want to pay top dollar to make sure you're getting your money's worth of robot fighting.

Plus, you have to admit, the fact that you're going to be seeing Optimus as big as he actually is in real life is pretty dang cool. If huge robots are fighting for world domination, I want to feel as if I could be trampled upon by them at any given time.

Not to mention, fifty feet of Megan Fox is hard to complain about.

Oh yeah, and 42 robots? Sounds like Transformers 2 might just make up for the disappointment of Terminator Salvation. Good thing McG decided to back out of that penis-measuring contest.
