After the teaser trailer from Tron Legacy was released, just about everybody has been pumped to hear and see more from the cyber-thriller. Now British actor Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon, Underworld) has said a few things that give us even more reason to hope that the new Tron will rock our socks off.
Sheen spoke with Coming Soon in an interview and discussed his part in Tron Legacy, and from the sounds of it we haven't seen nothin' yet. He said he plays a nightclub host and that much of his work involved greenscreens:
That was amazing, because there's a lot of green screen in that. But my stuff was mainly in this amazing set that they built because I'm a nightclub host, so they built the nightclub and there were hundreds of extras and it was one of those great scenes where there's just loads going on.
As for the Tron teaser that was released a couple months back, apparently that's old news. The director, Joseph Kosinski, made it to convince the executives at Disney to sign some checks for the movie, but the actual movie is going to look even better. Sheen said that Kosinski "...did that to get Disney to give the okay to make the film. Joe now says that he doesn't like people seeing that because it's moved on so much from that, and that looks awesome."
It's hard to say whether Sheen is resorting to hyperbole or if Tron Legacy really is going to look that much better than the original teaser. If so, then we're going to see some pretty impressive visual effects. But worst case scenario, if the effects aren't any better than what we saw in the teaser, they're still going to be jaw-dropping.
At this point Sheen is your go-to guy if you need someone who can do a werewolf, vampire, or British prime minister. It's exciting to think what he'll pull out of his hat for this all-digital world.
