UFC 106 Prelims Live and Free on Spike

bygdesanctis   November 12, 2009 at 4:34PM  |  Views:  |  Comment

Spike will again be bringing preliminary fights to the airwaves live, free and uninterrupted. Finally, a habit that’s not going to make my cuticles bleed or cause major organ failure.

The broadcast will kick off with Kendall Grove’s fight against Jake Rosholt, and then Ben Saunders will take on Marcus Davis to round out the hour and lead directly into the pay-per-view.

Grove is coming off a loss in his last outing but has won two of three since his decision victory over Evan Tanner at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale. He’ll have some interesting challenges against Rosholt. Jake is one of the few wrestlers that found an easy transition into striking, and he’ll probably look to stay away from the dangerous submissions of Grove. Rosholt should have no problem avoiding takedown attempts so this contest will probably be decided on the feet but it might be difficult to get passed the ridiculous reach of the 6’6” Grove. I see this one ending in a decision for Rosholt.

Fireworks are likely to fly in Spike’s second matchup of the evening. Ben Saunders is one of the UFC’s best young prospects and Marcus Davis always puts on an explosive show. Neither fighter is afraid to let their hands fly and this looks to be a stand-up war. Saunders has a vicious clinch and will enjoy a pretty significant height advantage (four inches), but if he can’t stay away from Davis’ power, it might be bang, zoom, lights out.

Prelims on Spike start at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PT on Saturday, November 21. Additional fights may air, time permitting.
