You've heard me complain about this travesty of progress for awhile now. Maybe this will shut me the hell up, for at least the next five minutes.
Scaled Composites, an aviation design company, has finally given the world a flying car that humanity has been promised since the beginning of time. The Model 367 BiPod, created by legendary aviation innovator Burt Rutan, seats two people in what appears to be two plane cockpits that have been chopped off of a 737 and welded together to form a road-ready, hybrid electric car/plane.
The wings are fold out from the fuselage before takeoff and come with twin 450cc engines in either section of the craft that run on 15kw electric motors and charge on lithium-ion battery packs. So not only is it five ways from awesome, but it's also good for the environment.Jalopnik reports
that the plane hasn't done a lot of flying yet since the necessary propellers weren't installed yet but when this baby gets off the ground, it can reach a flight speed of 200 mph and run for 530 miles in the air and 820 miles on the ground on just one tank of gas.Photo: DAJ/amana images/Getty Images
