Carnival Queen's Nearly-Nude Protest

February 23, 2009

A Brazilian carnival queen is causing a stir after appearing in a parade nearly nude with an image of Barack Obama painted on her inner right thigh. Viviane Castro's outrageous “costume” also featured an image of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's face on her left thigh and the words “for sale” across her stomach. Castro was protesting the sale of parts of the resource-rich Amazon to the United States.

Castro gained notoriety last year when she appeared in the parade “wearing nothing but a strategically placed piece of tape one-and-a-half inches long, violating a little-enforced nudity rule and drawing a penalty for her samba group.”

This year she resurrected that outfit.
