Fantasy Football Start or Sit - Week 8 2008

  October 25, 2008 at 6:40AM  |  Views:  |  Comment

Four points here, five points there and suddenly you have the difference between winning and losing. Our game-by-game analysis of week eight gives you the lowdown on how to get those elusive points, complete with Saturday injury updates.

It's time to start thinking about the playoffs. Most leagues begin the playoffs in week 13, and if you're cruising it's time to look ahead and see if your players have favorable matchups during weeks 13-15. If they don't, it's worth taking a loss or two to trade for players who may not be doing well now, but will have creampuff opponents when it really matters. Remember, all you have to do is make the playoffs. Once you're there, and you've lined up your cards correctly, it's anyone's game. Keep your eye on the prize, which is a championship. A perfect record means nothing if you don't win it all. Just ask the Patriots.

The following teams are on bye this week, so make sure their players are out of your lineup:

Denver, Chicago, Green Bay, Minnesota

Sunday, October 26

Start- Ronnie Brown still put up respectable numbers against the Ravens, and he'll have a decent game this week against Buffalo's average run defense. Do keep in mind that the Bills held LT to around 40 yards last week. Greg Camarillo is, without a doubt, the number one receiver in Miami. He's worthy of a flex start or if you're desperate for 13 points. Lee Evans is one helluva receiver. He's going to get his every game one way or another, and he's quickly becoming one of the more reliable receivers in fantasy. Miami is terrible against the pass, so expect Trent Edwards to have around 200 yards and two scores. Willis McGahee gashed the Dolphins last week, but he was one of the few backs to do so. Look for Marshawn Lynch to put up some points, but nothing insane.

Sit- Ricky Williams only got four carries last week so it looks like the starting gig has been officially locked down by Brown. Starting any of the Buffalo receivers  other than Evans is like receiving a check for 7-8 fantasy points. Even when Chad Pennington has a great week he doesn't score a lot of fantasy points.

Start- Willis McGahee finally had a breakout game in week seven. Considering how high he was drafted, a lot of owners have to be breathing a sigh of relief. Oakland is 24th against the run. Derrick Mason is a decent start as the Raiders aren't much better against the pass, but he's sick and questionable for Sunday. Sabastian Janikowski can straight-up kick the ball out of the stadium. Zach Miller better stay alert as the bailout balls are going to be coming in hot. He should put up a decent score.

Sit- Joe Flacco is starting to come around, but we still don't recommend him as even a bye week fill-in. The Ravens just can't stretch the field. Oakland came away with an improbable win last week, and with terrible teams like this, that usually means a letdown the following week. Against the Ravens defense, that's pretty likely to happen. Darren McFadden is more hobbled every week and Justin Fargas has yet to have a good game since returning from injury. Against the Ravens it's going to get ugly.

Start- Anquan Boldin practiced fully on Thursday, and it looks like he's going to suit up for Sunday's game, even though he's listed as questionable. He had a sinus injury, so how he handles the flight to Carolina will play big. If he does play, we don't expect him to hold anything back. He's a fierce competitor. Check the injury reports an hour before kickoff of the first games on Sunday. Larry Fitzgerald should be started regardless if Anquan plays. Jake Delhomme has reestablished his connection with Steve Smith, and now double S is an every week start once again. Arizona is 20th against the pass.

Sit- Carolina only allows eight points per game at home. Expect Kurt Warner to have another one of his awful road games. Edgerrin James only received nine carries last week as he's giving way to J.J. Arrington and Tim Hightower. None of them are worth starting at this point. Muhsin Muhammad came back to earth last week once Steve Smith found his game.  Arizona only gives up 93 rush yards per game, so DeAngelo Williams should be benched. Jonathan Stewart might have a touchdown and 50 yards.  If Anquan plays, get Steve Breaston on your bench. He'll sink back to irrelevancy.

image Tampa Bay at Dallas image

Start- Warrick Dunn is a little dinged up after last week's game, but he says he will play. Reports on Friday suggest that he's about 50-50, so Earnest Graham should get the bulk of the carries. Remember what Steven Jackson did to the Cowboys last week? Antonio Bryant isn't a bad start with so many Buccaneer wideouts injured as he's the only viable target. Marion Barber is worth a start for the sheer number of dump-off passes he gets. Same deal for Jason Witten.

Sit- Tony Romo is out, and will be for several more weeks. Joey Galloway is saying that he may come back this week, and it's looking like Ike Hilliard will sit after getting knocked unconscious on Sunday. He's traveling with the team, but we wouldn't count on using him in his usual flex position. If he goes, keep an eye on Galloway to see if he and Jeff Garcia can re-establish their connection. Tampa Bay's defense is no joke. They're going to blitz the hell out of Brad Johnson, so don't expect much from Terrell Owens or Roy Williams. It's looking like Felix Jones is going to be out for at least a few more weeks.
