Riddick is Coming Our Way

It looks like Vin Diesel is going to avoid the unemployment line for at least a little while longer. Not only is the ridiculously titled Fast Five speeding straight at us, but now the news has broke that a sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick is in development.

The title? It's simple and elegant: Riddick.

First Showing provided some of the details about the Diesel-starring sequel:

Franchise creator David Twohy will be back to direct the script he wrote, however we're not sure which one it is they're using. ...Variety says that they've heard from insiders that "the third outing will hew closer in tone to the cult hit Pitch Black and will focus on the character of Riddick as opposed to the universe he inhabits."

Riddick is supposed to be released in theaters in 2011. For all of you who've been hungering for more character development of Diesel's eponymous part, this movie will be just what the doctor ordered. For everyone else, well, let's hope they create some really cool monsters and sci-fi stuff for us to look at.

In all seriousness, this could actually be a pretty cool movie, though it seems as if there's only so much mileage Diesel's going to be able to get out of The Chronicles of Riddick and Fast and Furious franchises. But what do I know? The last Fast and Furious movie made out like a bandit, so maybe Riddick will too.

So what are your thoughts? Is Riddick something you're interested in seeing?
