This morning Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor posted a free download of his complete new album The Slip. The ten-track album is available in several formats via a link on NIN.com. A statement on the site from Trent Reznor says simply, "Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years -- this one's on me."

Pretty sweet.

I love it that veteran bands are getting into the whole free downloading thing, but how are truly independent bands going to survive if they do the same? Bands like Radiohead and NIN have the luxury of giving away their records for free. What will the youngins do? Just sayin’ people…

Nine Inch Nails plans to release The Slip on CD and vinyl in July and will use traditional distribution. Further details about the physical product have yet to be announced.
