Slipknot bassist Paul Gray has unexpectedly died at the young age of 38.

According to reports, Gray was found dead yesterday in a hotel room in Urbandale, Iowa. The cause of death has not been issued.

Heartfelt messages from the metal community have been pouring in since Gray’s untimely passing. "I'm so crushed to hear about the passing of Paul Gray," Shadows Fall singer Brian Fair told MTV News. "I had the pleasure of first getting to know him on a press trip to New York City before our tour with Slipknot and Lamb of God in 2005." Sepultura also took to the web to voice their respects for the Slipknot bassist. "RIP Paul Gray, we're shocked and very sad," current members of the band said in a joint statement. "This is another tragic loss for our metal community."

RIP Paul Gray.
