Ashton Kutcher Replaces Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men

May 13, 2011

Two and Half Men is back to having two and a half men. CBS and Warner Bros. have officially announced Ashton Kutcher is joining the cast of the beleaguered sitcom, replacing fired lead Charlie Sheen.

Two and a Half Men is set to return to television next fall with Ashton Kutcher in the lead. Kutcher will not play Sheen’s character, but rather will be introduced as a new character on the number one rated sitcom. Current cast members Jon Cryer, Angus T. Jones, Holland Taylor, Marin Hinkle, and Conchata Ferrell are all set to join Kutcher in the new season of the show.

Kutcher will reportedly earn $1 million an episode, slightly less than Sheen. It is unknown whether Kutcher will also share in the backend of the sitcom as Sheen did. With such a hefty paycheck it’s no wonder Kutcher is over the moon to join the show. He released a statement saying, “I can’t wait to get to work with this ridiculously talented 2.5 team and I believe we can fill the stage with laughter that will echo in viewers’ homes. I can’t replace Charlie Sheen but I’m going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!”

Everyone else involved in the decision to bring Kutcher onboard and return the sitcom to television all praised him. Show runner Chuck Lorre said, “We are so lucky to have someone as talented, joyful, and just plain remarkable as Ashton joining our family. Added to that is the deep sigh of relief knowing that our family stays together. If I was any happier, it’d be illegal.”

Similarly Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, said, “Ashton is a pop culture triple threat—film star, cutting-edge producer, and a social media pioneer. He brings creativity, energy, and personality to everything he touches.”

The only person not so positive about the casting news was, you guessed it, Charlie Sheen. He took to Twitter saying the new show would tank. He tweeted. “Kutcher is a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer … Oh wait, so am I!! … Enjoy the show America. Enjoy seeing a 2.0 in the demo every Monday, WB. … Enjoy planet Chuck, Ashton. There is no air, laughter, loyalty, or love there.”
