, our host Katie Linendoll will talk with LEGO Master Builder Pete Donner. That's right: LEGO now has master builders, and trust us, Pete is deserving of that title.
LEGO itself has come a long way from the loose collection of multi-colored blocks that we'd snap together to create something that vaguely resembles a building. Now they come in sets that create whole new worlds as well as the pre-existing fantasy realms we obsess over. From ninjas and wizards to rebels and droids, LEGO now runs the gamut to satisfy the interests of nearly every child.
It really, really makes us wish we were kids again. Here are five of their products that make us the most jealous.
Epic Dragon Battle
Ninjago, LEGO's resident Ninjitsu hero, has to stop The Great Devourer from destroying Earth. But that's not all: the set has an entire cast of characters both good and evil, plus a four-headed dragon (!!!) that Ninjago rides that also spits flames and can move its entire body. If, as a child, I was able to put together a set that made a ninja ride a dragon to fight a giant snake, I'd probably be obsessed with it.
Spider-Man's Doc Ock Ambush
Fans of Spider-Man get to re-enact some of their favorite battles between the web crawler and his arch-nemesis, Doctor Octopus, or create whole new ones. Pretty much everything LEGO does involving super-heroes is top notch, including but not limited to stuff like this and the LEGO Batman video games (which almost made this list except…well, we unashamedly love playing them). What makes this set even cooler is the inclusion of Iron Fist. It's like an old school issue of Marvel Team-Up. Seriously, the eight-year-old in me is geeking out so hard right now.
Minecraft's creative approach to gaming seems tailor made for a LEGO port, so you knew this was inevitable. Kids can have just as much fun as their older siblings and parents, or see their virtual work come to life in the physical realm. In that way, it's not so much an adaptation as it is a continuation of the Minecraft experience.
In the world of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, Hagrid is basically everyone's really cool Uncle. I can't imagine being a child and reading those books for the first time and having anyone else become my favorite character. Remember when you were a kid and you'd want to go back to hang out with your favorite Aunt and Uncle? Well, here you get to do it as often as you want. Plus it has a fireplace that lights up.
LEGO Star Wars
It's almost impossible to pick just one, so let's go with the whole line. Tie fighters, X-Wings, The Millennium Falcon, Jabba's Sail Barge, Hoth, AT-ATs, Motorized AT-ATs…the list goes on and on. If you're a kid and a Star Wars fan, it's pretty much the coolest thing ever. It also has a series of video games that are, for our money, the best Star Wars video games ever made (rivaled only by JVC's Super Star Wars series for the SNES).
