How Many Cheerleaders Can Fit in an Elevator?

August 6, 2008

A group of 26 cheerleaders in Austin were caught "going down" and had to be rescued. The girls were attending a cheerleading camp at the University of Texas and decided to all cram into an elevator. They then proceeded to travel one floor until the elevator stopped.

According to The Associated Press :

The elevator doors refused to open after the pack of 14- to 17-year-olds descended from the fourth to the first floor, police said. Responding to a few panicked cell phone calls from the group, police and firefighters summoned an elevator repairman, who spent about 25 minutes extricating them.

The group was obviously trying to figure out the age old question: How many cheerleaders can fit into an elevator? Looks like that answers is 25. Luckily no one was seriously injured. One girl fainted and was treated at the hospital. Apparently when she awoke she was really bummed out because she bet her gold pom poms from State Champions that they could in fact fit 26 cheerleaders into an elevator.

Next up the girls are going to work out how many cheerleaders it take to change a light bulb.

Sure to be interesting.
